WHY AC TECHNOLOGY?
Advanced AC systems deliver many advantages in the areas of control, power, fuel efficiency, and maintenance. For instance, AC power enables a high level of drilling control by providing for real-time drillstring position feedback. It also offers significantly higher torque, even at very low speeds, as well as infinite torque control.
These systems provide vastly easier set-up because so many fewer electrical connections are required. The lighter weight and smaller footprint lead to efficient use of rig floor space. And AC systems are inherently safer than their DC counterparts. |
