Unique SR Drive System Powers Conveyors

Longview, TX – LTI Power Systems, the manufacturer of the SR drive system used in the L950 and L1350 loaders, is currently using a 90kW SR drive system to power a pan feeder conveyor in Western Canada.  This unique drive system also has applications for a wide variety of conveyors, slurry pumps, and crane hoists. 

This SR system can supply a constant torque of 1150Nm up to 750 RPM, and is able to generate startup power equivalent to that of much larger AC motors.  The 90kW SR system also features the only motor capable of handling such high startup loads, and for that reason, is now replacing many AC powered systems.

The SR motor consists of a rotor placed inside of a specially designed stator.  This system employs the use of magnetic attraction to rotate the rotor from pole to pole, within the surrounding stator.  By consecutively switching the currents on and off in the poles, the rotor continually chases the stator current, creating a repetitive turning motion.

Providing a new level of performance and reliability, the SR system offers many features unavailable in standard electric drive systems.  The SR system’s motor resists failure, even in stall conditions.  The system also offers high-torque capabilities, with a continuous power rating of 90kW @ 750 to 1500 RPM, down to and including zero (0) speed.  In addition, there are no windings on the rotor, ensuring durability.  And because there are no brushes or brush rigging to maintain -- as is the case with DC motors -- the SR system requires little maintenance.
